Just went into Motorpoint for a look at their STI £21699
What's the catch?
Didn't get any detail or anything just a wee look but seems to be a good deal
Are they UK cars?
Embdy bought one from them good or bad

Doogsy,

The cars are Cypriot so there is NO warranty.

Motorpoint give you a 1 year in-house warranty. (cr@p)

3 year Motorpoint warranty - £700

There is NO security on the car - Cat 1 + Tracker - £700

O.T.R. costs - £270

Total - £23,369.

Take into account their huge A.P.R. on schemes like Boomerang and it doesn't seem like such a good idea.

Plus, some deals close to £23,369 have been done on STI8's at main dealers recently, with full UK warranty and security.

Hope this helps.

Oh yeah, underseal might be a good idea too!

I bought my 03 Sti from motorpoint £21599, (Malta destined car, UK spec though but no Subaru warranty) By the time Cat 1 had been fitted along with other bits & bobs turned out at approc £23.5K as above. Still a good buy!

Don't forget the re-sale/trade-in value, another 'hidden' cost.

Wouldn't touch this with a barge pole.

Just my 2p.

cheers

Steve.

I have just got a STI 03 from motorpoint. 3 weeks ago. I paid £21.599 for the vehicle, then there was registration and road tax, and I took out 2 more years warranty. That came upto £22402.00. The cat 1 alarm and trakker cost £560.00. Locking wheel nuts £32.00
Total cost £22994.00. I looked everywhere for the best deal. Tins where doing a STI 8 for £24.050 which is a uk car. That's the best deal I found. I tried Subaru dealers but most would'nt discount anything because they had to order the STI in. The thing's you have to consider are the residual price of the car and how long your going to keep it. The warranty from motorpoint is from a independant company and you only find out how good a warranty is when you need it. I spoke to one Subaru dealer who said they have standup rows with some people over the Subaru warranty. The car I bought had full underseal and the only differance I could find (apart from the price ) was the type uk badge was missing from the back. I hope you find this useful.

Also if you want to have the PPP fitted later you will have to have it done in the country of origin. The Cars Motopoint supply are not UK spec but they do tell you they are until you really push them. Their cars are sourced from out side the EU so no pan-european warranty. Car may also not come with under seal=bad for the UK climate.

Also have a loo at the link below for my dealings with the said company.

Yes but you can have differant mod's which come to the same thing for half the price. And mine did come with full underseal. Dealing with Motorpoint is not a good experiance due to the fact they don't talk to you like a normal dealer would but this is why it's a supermarket not a dealer.

It's also been said on a similar thread that they don't allow testdrives (fairly easily sorted by going to your local franchised dealer, if a little inconvenient), & they will know very little about the car. Highly knowledgable about finance though, that was the general feeling.

Got my STi7 from them at a stonking price. Had one warranty issue in first year of ownership which they settled with less hassle than I had through IM with my previous UK sourced car!!!

Just had a cancelled fleet order, got WR Blue and Black for immediate delivery at a very competitive price.
Give me a call to discuss a deal.

Cheers

Thanks again
Seems to be dividing up nicely into two camps
Definitely could be good deal but without some pitfalls
Are they fair with tradein price
How do the main dealers look upon these cars at trade in time?

Ian
Can you answer that last one and how would it stand re PPP upgrade?
How good a deal were you able to do? Mail offline if you want. Email as per profile

Doogsy,

I got a price for trade in from Motorpoint for mine.

I got offered £8,500 at a time when similar cars are fetching circa £13,000 for Subaru!!!!!!!

As for the trade in question, if you don't declare that its an import and aren't asked, then who'll know.

They are identical bar the UK badges.

Perhaps one of the chaps you mention above can give us the dealers stance on this matter?

Talizman is correct in saying they offer way below book price for
trade-ins. Personally I wouldn't touch them with the TunnelMeister's barge pole.

The reason most dealers will kick you in the nuts trying to trade in an import, is because the people that go to the dealers to buy want to buy a UK car not an import.

If they are selling an import it will have to be much cheaper than a UK.

People like motorpoint won't give a "good" px price on a late car because they are buying the new imports much cheaper (on the scoobys probably a 2-3 K margin at least

Doogsy

I looked at this post as I have a MY02 Import and try and keep an eye on what might be happening.

Just noticed a post from Ian Armstrong at Stan Palmer...posting as number plate X2 WRX (the 300 plus BHP STi 8 on the forecourt..I want it !).

look in the "Dealers and third Party Section" on Scoobynet for any other posts about how bl**dy good Stan Palmers' are at looking after their customers.

I'm sure he'll sort you out without a second thought about going back to Motorpoint..

Midlife..

Ian,

I've been to Motorpoint and also Subaru main dealer (last Saturday) to enquire about an STI8.

How do the main dealers prices/deal compare with yours?

Cheers

John
