Impreza WRX Driveline Question
#1
Hi there! Prospective WRX buyer here. I'm lucky enough to have the choice of co. cars and the WRX is in the frame!! Just have a quick question about the 4WD set up that I can't find the answer to anywhere......
Could anyone tell me what devices (if any) exist to ensure that torque is fed to the remaining wheels if some wheels have no resistance (e.g. off the ground or on wet ice). I know that on the latest Forrester there is both a torque transfer device on the centre diff and the rear diff so that if any one back wheel has traction it will receive torque. Does the Impreza WRX have anything similar (maybe brake intervention on spinning wheels)?

As far as I'm aware, there is no actual anti -slip devices fitted to subaru's. Yes, they have viscous slip centre diff, but that only splits the power. A unit like on landrovers, does actuall "brake" the slipping wheel when on ics for example, but scooby's do not, so yes, you can have the scenario of a single wheel on ice and the other three just sitting there, not moving an inch. Limited slip diffs do equalise the power split between the two wheels on that axle, but again,if one is spinning freely, it does not remove the drive from it.
