I have been shafted IMO by Tiangle Subaru in Chesterfield.
Car is an MY00 - not been abused still on original brake pads.
Had a 2yr 30k service for £400 and 8 days and 230 miles later power steering packs in. Firstly told "I've never known power steering to go in 12 years of working here" next told it needed replacing and was charged £415 for this!!
When I pointed out that this was the first time that the power steering was touched since new (the power steering oil was changed) they insist this is a coincidence and nothing to do with them.
As far as I can work out it has either been caused by underfilling of fluid or fluid of the wrong type. Interestingly on the two different invoices different fluids are quoted and I was charged 2 completely different amounts.
The car is not under warranty as it is a personal import.
Who should I complain to - I have read the previous post regarding engine failure - would Top Gear be interested.
I still have the original pump as evidence - assuming they gave me the correct pump mmmmmmmmmmm.

I'm sorry to hear about this. I've heard loads of bad things about this company and have experienced them to, when I nearly bought a new MY99 and they well inflated the price! Also they contacted a mate of mine and said the TURBO unit on his car HAD been recalled and he should change it? At a very high price!!
Can't help with this matter but FARMERS GARAGE AT MATLOCK ARE BRILL (Not a SUBARU dealer now but 20 odd years experience)
Or MONTYS AT SHEFF All the best

hi mate...pursue it because I did and today I got a result with Subaru UK coffing up (see my post about customer care today on the general forum)...they obviously realise that the people that pay their wages will go else where if we don't get treated right. Good luck...Dont give up....We will fight them on the beaches etc etc etc

Angry

When i bought my my99 sport from them part of the sale agreement was the full 30k service. When the car was delivered service history had been stamped but being a trusting kind of guy checked the plugs & filters & had not been changed! So i gave them a call they admitted they had only changed the engine oil & to bring the car back for the full service costing me time & money!!!

Triangle have been in the Subaru business for years.
Can see where you're coming from but if the car was under a warranty they would have replaced it wouldn't they ?

To Flat 4 - the lack of warranty is not the question.
The problem is that these idiots likely caused the problem in the first place.

How would changing the fluid damage the steering pump?

My question also -

if you are in the AA or RAC can you get their opinion on whether / how a dealer can damage the PAS ?

Next time (hopefully not), if you don't trust a dealer, always ask them for the old parts back at the time as these can be independently inspected - to establish whether wear & tear or other cause for failure.

I have been asked to amend this thread by the dealer concerned.
After writing them a letter explaining my concerns they have dealt with my issues and are having an inspection of the part concerned.
In retrospect I have obviously jumped the gun on this issue after being very annoyed about a large bill. Since my letter they have been interested in my problem and I feel it has been dealt with appropriately.
I am now happy with the quality of service and have had a meeting with the director of this delaership.
