Question

Has anyone ordered any parts from MRT's online shop in Australia? I wondered if you were hit with any hidden costs such as shipping or customs charges as there prices are quite cheap compared with stuff available in the UK.

im currently considering the same thing. Spoke to one of the sales guys & they said product valued @ 1/3 of the cost. If it hgets stopped @ customs we get charged import duty & VAT which is around 45%. However, he did say that he could not tell me postage cost until they send it, which i thought was kinda cr@p.

you tried putting a bigger pump/rad in for the chargecooler?

you might get away with asking MRT to label package as a "warranty return"....

I got another package from Oz and didn't get stung by customs, but I think it was because it was a smallish jiffy bag.

OTOH the WB lambda sensor from US I paid VAT, about 4% duty, and a parcel farce customs clearing fee.

All I know is I was going to order my APS HFA direct from APS before JW Racing became UK Distributors, the cost of the APS was significantly cheaper due to the AUS $ being quite favourable, but by the shipping costs was disturbingly expensive, it would have cost me a further £150-£175 to send the APS to me, considering its a small unit was extremely expensive, then of course you will get 10% Import Duty which is charged on the price of the item and the shipping cost, then of course your 17.% Vat on top of the lot!

Unhappy

MRT cannot now "undervalue" goods, despatched to the UK (or anywhere for that matter). The law has changed introducing severe penalties if caught doing it so they will not. Not even to dealers.

The chances of parcels slipping through customs unnoticed are very slim. Sometimes you get charged at delivery, we get a monthly bill from each courier we use for import tax Etc.

So the prices on the MRT site are plus VAT and customs charges, in other words it works out more expensive. Shame.

Check out both these Customs & excise sites. I've been penalised for buying things from the US a few times (had to pay £12 for a parcel from Amazon.com) and had a parcel opened at Customs and a letter asking me to provide reciepts for these items before they'd get released so BEWARE !!!!
