Question

Anyone know of a little program to do this ?

I don't think my Athlon is doing what it should be. Just want to check the FSB speed

I think it should be 200Mhz (1.2Ghz Athlon), but when I ran 3DMark it said it was 66Mhz

http://www.h-oda.com/

WCPUID is the program that displays the CPU information of your personal computer. Shows Frequency, Multiplier, Chipset Info. etc ...

Hi DJ Dunk,

Have a look at http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.htm
This prog will tell you the CPU & FSB speeds as well as loads of other stuff.

Cheers,

Rob.

Question

Unless I should be looking at the System Clock speed on the first one ? Either way its too low

Why is it too low? DDR doesn't double the clock frequency, only transfers data twice as often (rising and falling edge of the clock pulse).

Do the figures look right for the CPU is what I want to know ?
I expected to see 200Mhz in the FSB speed but it doesn't say that.

Don't know much about CPU's (as you can tell ), just want to check that it is going as fast as it should

Both speeds seem spot on. CPU speed of 1195 Mhz is 1.195 Ghz which is as close to 1.2 Ghz as you will get (remember a 2 litre Impreza engine is actually only 1.994 litres in capacity!). DDR on the FSB frequency means you get twice the data transfers for the same frequency. Double 100 MHz and you get 200 Mhz. It's a moot point whether it should be listed as 100 Mhz or 200 Mhz though!

Okay. Now for the really silly question . . .

Who wants to explain to me what FSB does anyway ?

FSB is the front side bus. Basically the cpu / system memory interface.

Yeah, knew that bit. But what does it do and why do we need more of it ?

Right, think I've got it

So its . . . .

The bus within a microprocessor that connects the CPU with main memory. It's used to communicate between the motherboard and other components in a computer system.
