OK...I give in...what IS a "smart TV"?
#2
basically it can connect to the internet and bring you other services e.g. bbc iplayer
some can take input from your computer, playing videos/music/photos etc
do you need one? no - I've got one and just use to watch terrestrial TV !!

Very little worth paying for.
Smart gives you features like BBC Iplayer etc. Just buy a blueray player that is Smart "enabled" if you want those sort of features.

Just got a Panasonic , it has a web browser , apps (youtube , facebook , twitter etc) And I have an app on my phone that means I can send pics/video/music wireless the tv at a touch of a button , can be used as a remote (pointless) and voice control , and face recognition (can set up different user home screens).
Mine has 3D (makes 2D into 3D) which I.was surprised at as I dont have a 3D bluray or Sky 3D. Also has Freeview HD built in.

My idea of a smart TV would be one that would know decent programmes and the crap, it would refuse to work when crap was on, would save a fortune on my leccy bill :-)

I can wave a hand at it and say "volume up" and it turns the sound up, not that amazing for me but useful for someone with dexterity or vision problems.
We had fun at Christmas putting YouTube and Facebook on for some older relatives, saves them trying to look at a laptop/ tablet.

As mentioned above, get an Android dongle and a wireless mouse from Tesco and your HDMI equipped TV becomes "SMART" : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1510347140...84.m1439.l2649
Anything you can do on a smartphone or tablet you can then do on your TV.
I primarily use it for watching Youtube motoring related subscriptions and old discovery documentaries that are held on YouTube.

Definitely not worth buying a new TV for (if you're happy with picture-quality and screen-size of your current one), especially as you can get all the 'smart' features by getting a dongle as others have mentioned, or if you do your research and find the right one, a new blue-ray player or PVR.

I bought a Samsung 40" 3d smart tv to replace my old 28" Sony in my man cave. Only had it a month and thus far only used the smart bit for Itv player and for playing music on YouTube.
As suggested I wouldn't make a point of buying one unless you're not satisfied with your current tv as I wasn't, 28" way too small in this day and age
Nik.
