Help please...getting tablet on wi fi
Bought cheap tablet for my 8 year olds.Trying to connect WiFi
Firstly telling me to turn off Wi Fi protectedSetup button on router. There isn't one on my sky router
Tried manual input of pass code...about a hundred times.Just says "saved and secured with WPAor something.anyway, won't work. Was dead easy on kindles and phones!
Any help much appreciated:-)

I found the cheaper tablets do not like WPA or similar. WPS is usually a one button press on the router but as you said your sky (usually netgear) does not have that function.
The only way you may have luck is to go into the router settings via your browser and change it down to something like WEP 128bit security and try again
These cheaper tablets really are a PITA

Not quite…but I believe yours is the answer.Just not sure what I'm doing transferring from wap to wep or what to type in as pass code.Make it up? Was tempted to simply disable but thought best not.
Bit tongue in cheek 're other tablets but thought maybe should spend few extra £'s 8 or not!
Thanks Swiss,I'll have another bash tomorrow :-)

The password is whatever you want, the longer the better and stick some numbers in it.
You need to RTFManual of your tablet and see if it supports WPA/WPA2 security first. If it doesn't then it probably can only use WEP security again RTFM. Then goto your router, also RTFM and choose the appropriate wifi security setting, job done
FYI
WPA or the better WPA2 = WiFi Protected Access
WEP = Wired Equivalent Privacy
WEP is pants because it is very easy to crack the password when its used.
WPA/WPA2 can also be cracked but it's alot harder to do so.

Pretty sure even the cheapest of cheap tablets will support WPA2, so this will either be a case of operator error, or the tablet's been flashed with an incompatible ROM (likely to happen if there's been a slight revision in the chipset, but the manufacturer hasn't updated the driver).
My advice here would be to try setting the router to no security at all, just to see if the tablet will connect that way (but remember to set the router back to WPA2 straight afterwards). If it does, then most likely a settings issue on tablet, or password being entered incorrectly. If it doesn't, try on somebody else's router if at all possible, to confirm the problem is consistent, then complain to seller and ask for exchange or refund.

iPad one is running out of support for apps such as Facebook (your childs age noted by the way) so I would avoid the iPad One. Very out dated and no more support/updates coming from Apple. Galaxy 8 is the way forward. Seems they will always be supported. Wife has one and loves her 8" hehe
