Default TV Purchase

Well I've an impulsive want to buy a new Tv after a quick look at deals.

Now I don't need one, but after looking at deals like this it seems rude not too

http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/tv-dvd-...xmxaq&istBid=t

I've currently 42" in both living rooms, but neither are smart, and as always being the man of the house this decision is mine, and when it comes to televisions I think bigger is better

I realise it's not 3D, but is it really worth it?

Verdict?

Rob

Lg, no thanks what a piece of unreliable crap they are, but that's just my opinion, based on experience.
The Samsung, good TV's but it's old hat without 3D hence the price.

get some 3d rob! its good fun and can really add something to movies especially animation. i,ve no experience of lg tv,s but ive got a 50" samsung 3d plasma and its been great. i was an early adopter so have had mine 2 years now and have a fair old collection of films. samsung tv,s have a feature which can make 2d into 3d, its a bit of a gimmick but it works well enough especially if there,s a space or underwater documentary on. if you can look out for a panasonic 3d plasma as the picture quality on them is superb. i bought the sammy before i saw the panasonic but wished i had bought it first! panasonic have been doing plasma,s a long time and are very good at it. 3d isnt something you will use every day but i watch a film or documentary at least once or twice a week. with the prices bottoming out now its a no brainer to just have it anyway.

3D is great, you get all the glasses, buy a few films because they are in 3D and then get excited for 15 minutes watching it before you realise it's actually sh1te and put the glases in a draw and get on with watching TV as normal. When even directors like Christopher Nolan say it's a short lived gimmick that's good enough for me!

I've got a 50inch lg plasma and the picture quality is awesome. I've linked it to a lg sound bar and the sound is amazing too.

I have to say I prefer the picture quality over led, it just seems more natural, I find led quite artificial.

The plasma has an impressive viewing a angle too which is handy in our lounge.

That maybe the case for some but I do enjoy a 3D film and whilst the technology is current I will enjoy it....For anyone has ever seen Avatar in 3D will be able relate to what I'm saying, it is truly stunning.

I have a 50" F8000 Samsung led tv with 3d capabilities, never use 3d, waste of time. However it's the best picture I have seen on any tv. The definition and clarity are astounding. I can't imagine 4k definition being much better until screen size goes absolutely massive.

Panasonic are stopping Plasma production from this year. The Samsung is the first non Panasonic TV I've bought for about 10 years and have to say I'm more than happy.

Not a good time to buy a tv

You need to wait til march /April where the manufacturers roll out their new models, then you can buy this years model (discontinued) for a lot less wonga.

Generally this is after the manufacturers showcase the new models at CES which usually takes place in February.

It's the same with Swiss watches after Basal. Which also takes place after January "sales"

I say "sales" as its anything other than a sale: it's just selling soon to be discontinued stock at peak prices... The real bargains come after January.

I saw an LG model yesterday in Curry's, a curved screen with what looked like a carbon fiber back, either that or it was carbon dipped.....anyone know what the curved screen offers?

I've seen the same in John Lewis.

The sales person said the only benefits are, less chance of glare or a reflection, and generally offers the audience a better viewing angle if your sat directly in front of it. I said it sounds bollox as the screen was an LCD so there is no glare, and the curved screen would be a PITA to hang right? He waffled sh!te, but I know I was right

Ps I've bought the costco deal I put on hotukdeals

Regardless of the fact the TVs will reduce in price, it's just like anything given time reduces any series of appliance prices. This TV was 3k originally. I'd be surprised to see it drop below £700 before it's replaced with a new model in which case I feel I've still got a decent deal, as the replacement model won't be this side of a grand Waiting to be proved wrong
