I paid about £10 delivered for my universal bracket, also for a 42inch Panny Plasma. It's still up there.

No; the bolt holes on the back of the TV are all usually VESA standard. Both of our Pannys are.

Just make sure you use the right length bolts and washers; Universal kits usually have a selection....pick one that is too long and you can wreck the screen, too short and it'll strip the threads and fall off the wall.

No you don't. I spent a little extra on a Vogels job for our 50" Panny plasma (heavy) but still way cheaper than the official one. http://www.vogels.com/flat-screen-tv...l#!prettyPhoto

What's more important is how you attach the bracket to the wall
