Red face Sim /network or phone problem

Can't work this out
Phone sometimes rings but mostly its going to voicemail, and not even recording the call. I cannot adjust call settings either , it says "sim or network error". I've been onto voda, who iv been with 2 years. Can't figure it out.

If I put a different sim in the phone there's no problem and if I put the voda sim in different phone, again no problem.

Have had this on Vodaphone a couple of weeks ago. Only appeared to happen in the early hours of the morning. This was very inconvenient as I was on call for the company I work for and need to make sure I received any calls for emergencies. And low and behold they tried to get hold of me. Only way I knew something was worng is that 3 hours later got 3 text/voice alert messages. Could only put it down to a Vodaphone issue and the fact I get a very poor signal in my area.
