Default crap US TV picture

So, here's a question to the tech bods out there.

Why does American TV picture quality look crap and fuzzy compared to the UK picture?

Less lines than us

The US system (NTSC) was 525 lines whereas the European system (PAL) is 576 lines. Full HD is 1080 lines.

However the US system has a higher refresh rate of 60Hz versus the European 50Hz, both systems use interlacing whereby only half the lines are updated on each cycle so the true rate is 30 or 25Hz.

It is also said that the colour reproduction isn't as good on the NTSC system hence it being nicknamed "Never Twice the Same Colour". Can't remember the reasons why.
