Seriously? There isn't a mailing list or RSS feed that people can subscribe to if they want to know this?

Feel happy for this misguided soul, it means a lot to him and gives him an identity.

Non event, LOL. They announced something that will change the Operating System market for ever. You carry on being delusional.

You did actually read that article, right? Just it makes little or no comment on the actual products Apple produce.

Tbf though they have a point, Tim Cook isn't Steve Jobs by any stretch of the imagination and the old keynote format doesn't work for him.

I think he's saying that by offering OSX update for free is going to somehow change the whole OS market. Apple only have something like 5% of the 'desktop' market! Besides, Apple are simply copying others who have already been offering updates for free for years. MS offered a free update to 8.1 for Win8 users before Apple's announcement.

I see 10.8 to 10.9 being a bigger update than 8.0 to 8.1. And equivalent would be 7 to 8.
If you had purchased a retail version of 7 last year then would you get a free update from Microsoft to 8? If you were on visits would you also get a free update to 8?

I think that is the major pint apple is trying to make with 10.9 being free. Anyone on some
prior so versions can get the latest os for free

Woz told his Mrs not to get the latest ipad as it has nothing of interest. Kind of sums it up really when coupled to the articles comments.

Ha, ha, ha! What a bunch of comedians you are. Totally laughable that you can't see any value in anything that was launched this week. Oh how you all kid.

So funny that someone mentioned 64bit, an absolute **** ton of apps are now 64bit compatible, pretty much all of them, I bet they run great.

I bet it's the reason Ballmer quit, he'd spoken to Tim and knew the bottom was dropping out of another one of his cash cows. Maybe you mugs will keep paying for operating systems for your cheap hardware, I'll take exemplary support, free business apps and free OS updates for my minor up front cost.

Ha, ha, ha, you're such a sheep. Trawling Google looking for anything negative. 9,000,000 iPhone 5S's sold, yup, a few apps are going to crash, big deal.

LOL, what a bunch of clowns, fancy spending your time that way.

Operating systems have always been a chargeable product. Apple changed that. Office products too.

Well you are comparing the charge made for a free standing operating system to someone buying dedicated hardware that includes a dedicated operating system.

Apple make OS and machine

Microsoft make OS

A.N.Others make machines

Even with years of paying for updates 1 is still cheaper overall, and it aint Apple's offering. If you think this will change the world you have your head up your ar$e.

No, Apple's 'free' is like comparing it to 'free' phones; you pay a huge premium to get the 'free' product. Also calling iWorks an 'Office' product Mac sales are in falling and Apple are doing this in an attempt to boost its tiny market share. For prospective buyers, however, it is of little consolation since you have to spend well over a thousand pounds for a Mac/Macbook when you can get a fully loaded PC for much less.

Regardless of your opinion as to what OS/Applications you personally prefer to use, it doesn't alter the fact that free OSs and free productivity suites have been available for years . Apple have done nothing new here.

OK Beef, show me the list of previously paid OS's and Office Productivity Apps that are now free.
