Most firewalls only restrict traffic in if you didn't initiate the connection. So most should be fine.

What sort of firewall are you running? Software or Hardware?

Its UDP and is typically 27015

Remember if its a pure packet filter f/w you'll need to open the UDP both ways. If its got some intelligence then it should approximate a session for the outgoing udp and allow the return in.

Dominic

Are we talking corporate LAN firewall - or PC personal firewall.

Actually - isnt 27015 the default client port and 27035 the default dedicated server port ?

I think thats correct Deano

But the client port is only true if you don't connect through a NAT'ed connection.

Question

We are talking corp LAN firewall. I can set to send/receive or out/in no probs. When i did this for UT had to open 3 different ports. 1 for server browser, 1 for UTping/server querey and 1 for gameplay. I expected to need a few for CS as well???

Question

To play UT on the net through a firewall the following ports must be opened.
Browser = TCP 28900
Server query UDP 7778 send and receive (ping)
Gameplay UDP 7777 send and receive

for CS maybe Browser TCP 27010 ??? ping?? actual gameplay??

IIRC You only need to open up 1 port. Something like

Source Any/your pc
Destination Any/a cs server
Port : the server port eg 27015 TCP

That should be fine....

The client always runs on port 27005. Most server run on port 27015 but the two the STi clan have run on 27055 and 27035. There are a few other ports thats used by the server.
