Excel 2000 - Cannot find installable ISAM?
#1
Hiya,
Got a problem at work with the above. One of our Accounts guys is trying to run a data query and he gets the following message:
ODBC Error: (Msg box title)
Cannot find installable ISAM (Msg text)
I've had a nose around on the KB and came up with some articles referring to the error but not relating to this problem. The KB document is: http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q231078
However we're not connecting to a FoxPro db? I've removed and re-installed Office 2000 and downloaded a ODBC patch from MS but still no joy.
Anyone else come across this problem before or can shed any light on this?
Cheers,
Ian

Just another worksheet.
I've also checked all the ODBC bits in Control Panel (i.e Data Sources, .dsn's, etc)
It's on Win2K SP2 if it makes any difference?
Cheers,
Ian

OK,
go to your winnt\system32 dir, and have a look for either MSExcl35.dll
or
MSExcl40.dll
you might have both, what you'll need to do is make sure they are registered, safest way is to unregister them, then reregister them as follows
Go Start, Run, then type the following (path is relative to where you actually find the DLL)
regsvr32.exe C:\Winnt\System32\MSExcl35.dll /U
regsvr32.exe C:\Winnt\System32\MSExcl40.dll /U
then re-register them using the same line without the /U switch
if the LoadLibrary fails lemme know, it should be successful
Then check the following registry keys to see what excel thinks its ISAM is:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Jet\4.0\Engi nes\Excel
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Jet\3.5\Engi nes\Excel
then try it again

Bingo! All working ok now.
When I unregistered MSExcl40.dll is failed with error code 0x80004005 but I tried to re-register and it registered - just jumped into Excel and gave it a try - all works fine
Thanks for your help Crispin, much appreciated.
