my PC build
Hi all, this is the first build that i have put together on my own.
I wanted a pc that would play the latest games at high/max settings and will still run them well in a couple of years time.
-intel i5 3570k, as it is good for over clocking
-mis z77 mpower, it looks cool, and and space for another gpu if i need one in the future
-his hd 7950 iceQ boost card
-bitfenix rader case
-benq 27" screen
I was going to reuse these couple of parts from my old pc
-ocz zs 750w power supply
-corsair vengeance 8gb ram
this is the inside of the case
i am all up and running now on windows 8 64, and the difference in performance compaired to my old set up is fantastic!
The games are so much snoother, and colours that i have never seen before!!
less than a week later i was looking on the the overclockers forum again and i kepted looking at different cpu coolers.
it isnt something that I am going to need for quite a long time, as i am going to keep the standard clock speed, but it is nice to have.
I also was thinking about some faster ram, and again advised from the members on here, i went for some :-)
-Alpenföhn K2 Mount Doom CPU Cooler. This thing is massive!!!!!! and very very nice.
-Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 1600MHz Dual Channel 4x4gb sticks.
I fitting of the cooler wasnt to bad tbh
the back plate with the bolts in and rubber bits on
back of mobo shot
looks like i forgot to take a pic of the front with the bars that the cooler bolts into :-(

Looks great, congrats.
Nice choice of components, the K2 looks great sat in there
... That should give some good cooling with the push/pull setup.

**** me that's one big ***** of a CPU cooler!!
I bought a pre-configured over-clocked bundle from Scan last year (motherboard, cpu and memory - corsair vengeance like the ones you'd replaced) then built my own PC using all new components. Getting random BSOD more and more frequently
Think I posted a thread on here a few months ago. That was when I'd only had 2 or 3 but it seems to have them every other day now. Never running the same program, usually when it's not even under full load.
Anyways, not to hijack your thread, the innards of your PC look very nice
and they threw in a free little race car?

Watch out for you PSU. I understand that its situated in the bottom of the case so that it creates a separate air channel for the purposes of cooling. The obvious issue is that the PSU air intake is coming straight from your floor carpet. You will have to ensure that you blow out the inside of your PSU every few months otherwise you may cook it due to dust clogging things up.
Some of these new cases have great new fangled ideas, but the real world usage is not always that hot. Your case is not the first I have come across like that, and so long as you keep the PSU clean its a good setup.

I almost got that cooler, went with a Silver Arrow instead, similar size! Keeps things cool, I run my 3770k on 4.5Ghz 24x7.
Good choice on the GFX too, I have 2, and they vent outside the case to help keep temps down inside the case
They will overclock to anything up to 1050core 1500mem on stock volts depending on how luck you were with the silicon lottery. Other with voltage tweaks run up to 1250/1600+
but 1100-1150 seems a good medium.
I run mine at stock volts 1020 and 1450, and can play BF3 in ultra at 6000x1200 and only very rarely dips under 60fps (still high 50's)

Nice setup but would have gone with a better case tbh, any one that pulls air from the bottom will be a nightmare and I would rather pull air in from the side, a HAF X would suit a 2 GPU setup much better than what you have there as the air would be blown directly on to them (thats if you go for the 2 GPU setup) otherwise nice

As above Tony said I would go too with better case,I've bought Coolermaster HAF and must admit is best case to the date what I've owned,agreed is not most nicest case,but inside the case is lot of space and easy to do cable management
Anyway looking good and hopefully now no more problems

My case has the PSU at the bottom but the case sits in one of those IKEA office units (open front and back) so it's off the carpet. Still have to clear the fluff out the filter every 6 months.

in my case i have 2 120mm fans at the front blowing in, and 1 120mm fan blowing out the back.
i have just ordered a 200mm fan to suck out at the top, and another 120mm fan to blow in from the bottom onto the gpu.
what would give better performance, 2x 120mm or 1x 200mm fan?

the 1 200 should be fine for the top IIRC thats what my HAF 932's is.
Can you get one on the side of the case to blow down onto the card?
(btw I'm also on OCUK as SkyJawa so replied in that post too!!)

I agree about the case point, i'm using a 650D, to get a good build you need plenty of space behind the mobo tray for good cable management and plenty of rubber grommets along with built in loop/clips so you can use cable ties to tighten those cables tight to the case.

Those are good fans. Not sure whats fitted standard in my CM HAF but its 230mm and v quiet (19db)

If that were me i'd remove that hard drive rack from in front of the front intake fan, its really going to restrict your air flow and cooling. Do you have a spare 5.25 bay at the front where you can put them ? You can buy quick release 5.25 bays that just slot on the front.
My 650D case came that way with a removable hard drive rack in front of the front intake fan, the first thing i did was remove it and mount my hard drives in one of the 5.25 bays, i now have no mechanic hard drives now, all i use is an SSD which you can mount virtually anywhere.
My SSD is mounted in the blue 2.5 mini rack underneath the 5.25 bay in the pic below, the 2.5 SSD still gets good cooling being at the top of fan but without restricting the air flow.

I'd probably consider changing cases, PC cases are fairly cheap these days and most now are tool-less so you can move hard drive racks like that without a problem and pop them back in if you want.

Go on the overclockers forum, they have a case section and ask for opinions. Tell them what your after, your budget and you will get some good feedback.

The Bitfenix Shinobi seems to get recommended a lot, the Corsair 650D that i have is great but thats probably pushing your budget a bit too much.

on my mobo, there is something called OC genie
as long as you have good ram and cooling then it should be safe to use.
you turn the pc off, press the OC genie on the mobo, then turn back on.
it was 3.4 ghz standard, now it is 4.2 ghz.
so far it feels stable. I have a good hour play at far cry 3 last night, and cpu temps never peeked 55c and during the game it was in the 40-45c
not to bad i think :-)
