rooting an android phone???

Default rooting an android phone???

has anybody done this?

been reading a bit about it and does have its benefits.

only thing im wondering is even if i back my apps up etc, once i root the phone, does it mean that i cant reload the apps and would lose any game data from before hand

It depends on a lot of things - make/model of phone, Android version, tool used to do the rooting, etc.

You can still download and install the apps you used based on the Google account you registered your device with. You may lose game data but you should do a full backup of the user data before rooting. However, if you have rooted the device and installed a new rom, do not restore the system data from your backups. Get on the www.xda-developers.com for more info specific to your device.

ok cheers

yeah gathered i would be able to just re-download them all through my google account, but didnt want to lose the game data really if possible

using galaxy nexus with ICS 4.1.1

as for tool to do rooting ive watched a few youtube video's and have downloaded galaxy nexus root toolkit which lets me do a back up before rooting

I rooted my galasy s2 and put the pure ics rom on. Advantages, improved battery life, better benchmark score and it's a lot faster without all the bloatware.

HAD to do it on the Desire, because of the lack of internal space. Was very simple indeed using Revolutionary. Used this method to do my GFs Sensation XE too. Partitioning the SD card was a bit of a pain.

Was fun installing new custom ROMs etc. Settled for Miui. Does everything very well. And i now have 986MB of internal space.
