Question Macbook Pro ram question

They only have 2 slots and officially Apple say only 8gb is supported but i've read plenty of people have put 2 8gb sticks in and got 16gb ram without issue.

Has anyone here done this?

I have a 15" quad core i7 with 1gb radeon gpu reserved at Currys for £929 as they are flogging off all the older models. This one is a MD322B/A so October 2011 model previously selling at £1800 allegedly.

Seriously tempted to go and pick it up and sell my Dell XPS but only if it's going to take 16gb ram in Lion/mountain Lion.

The Wife has the 13" i5 reserved for £649 which was also too good to pass up, again October 2011 model.
