Question VMWare advice please

I have a work laptop and home desktop both running VMWare Player (4.0.3). I have an external HD with several virtual machines on it which I can run from the laptop with no problems. When I try to run the VMs on the desktop machine I get an error message which suggests that there is a problem with permissions. (I'm not at the desktop at the moment so can't quote the exact message but can provide this later if it helps). I've checked permissions on the program install folders and don't see any problems. (I assume that permissions on the VM folders on the HD must be OK as it works on the laptop).

Google hasn't come up with any useful answers so does anyone here have any suggestions for what to check?

Both systems are running Windows 7 64 bit. Laptop is Pro version, desktop is Home. Desktop is brand new so hasn't yet had loads of dodgy applications installed to screw up the registry!

Check that the VM files aren't set to "Read Only"?

Thanks, boomer. AS luck would have it the PC crashed in a major way so I've resintalled everything from scratch. The VMs worked first time on the reinstalled system.

So no idea what had gone wrong but it's fixed now!
