Default Which Domain Name & Website Provider ?

I am about to embark on a new business venture and am seeking advice on which domain and website provider to select from the head scratching choice out there Reliability and price being the key factors.

Any assistance in the right direction would be greatly appreciated gents

p.s. can i buy a web address outright or do i have to rent it which seems to be the norm?

Cheers, Kris

It doesn't matter where you buy your domain name from and where you get your hosting from.

123-reg.co.uk currently host all my domains.

Do you know what sort of hosting you want?

Shared / virtual / physical server?

Windows / linux..

The above will depend on your needs / costs / web designers preference..

Nothing can beat Google, nothing.

$10 a year, everything included and set up ready to use.

Go here https://www.google.com/a/cpanel/standard/new3 click on buy domain.

Ignoring the teensy-weensy fact they don't provide web-hosting as such, and this is one of the 2 things the OP specifically asked for, it would be truer to say that nothing can beat Jack for random, substance-fuelled trolling

It really does matter which host you use. There are hosts out there that are just not reliable, along with having very limited web hosting.

Be very careful about using a host that uses a proprietary web design system, such as 1&1. While its easy to make a website with that system, you cannot move it to another host.

You are far better picking a really good host (that means paying a premium) that is reliable and has good support. If you are going to use a web designer then they will almost certainly want to use their own host so that they can guarantee the functionality of your website. So, speak to them first! If you are doing it yourself I would recommend Zen (www.zen.co.uk).

Drop me a PM if you like, I've designed a fair few websites now.
