Default A quick SATA question

I've ordered a NAS server. Link below.

http://www.dlink.co.uk/cs/Satellite?...GB%2FDLWrapper

It's described as having 2x SATA II 3.5 HDD interfaces.

I've identified a hard drive that I intend to buy and fit in the server (x2). Link below.

http://www.ebuyer.com/319640-seagate...ve-st3000dm001

It's described as SATA III.

My question is are SATA II and III compatible? Will the hard drive work in the NAS server?

That's great thanks.

What's your opinion on Weston Digital vs Seagate hard drives. I'm reading reviews on 3tb HHD's from both manufacturers and they all have big issues. Who is the more reliable brand would you say?

I'd go for Seagate myself, but I'm curious where you saw so many 3TB drives had issues.

To be honest either will do grand. Reliability wise, both models are relatively new technology on both capacity and sata3 interface. I hope you are mirroring them just in case.

Mostly from reviews on Amazon.com where there are hundreds of them. The return rate some of the customers on there have reported is staggeringly high one guy returned 7 out of 10 drives. This was applicable to both brands. I also read other stuff as well. It is reported that the Seagate in particular has a very short projected life span of something like 2,400 spin hours. I think the Seagate has the edge for reliability though. I'm tempted to get one of each to try and hopefully minimise the chance of a premature failure somehow.

I'd either go for different makes or ordering at different times to try and minimise the risk of them failing around the same time.
