When i bootup (switch on comp) the computer starts loading up then is comes to:

SDRAM AT DIMMS:/
Search for Boot record from Floopy....Not Found
Search for Boot record from CD ROM....Not Found
Search for Boot record from IDE-0....

Then it just stops booting up. then i get a funny TIK TIK TIK TIK sound coming from the compture. it a bit like the floppy drive but louder.
to get the comp to bootup i need to switch off then on again. need to do this everytime i start up the comp
does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Thany you

Ray

Sounds dodgy.

The first boot record searches are perfectly normal if theres no bootable media in the drives, but next it is searching for the boot record on your hard drive . . . which it appears to not be finding. Have you got a boot disk that you can startup with and run a scandisk ?

Sounds like the hard disk has gone and it cant find a boot device, try putting a Windows 98 CD in boot the pc to a dos prompt from the CD and the try to access the c: drive by typing c: if you get an error the such as Abort, retry, fail then your disk has bit the big one. You can also boot from the floppy and try the same thing.

Daz.

PSU = Power Supply. Check the wattage on the back or side of the power supply. It needs to be at least 300w, really, to cope with Athlons.

Might not be related, but try removing any memory sticks from the computer, then refitting them, making sure that they fit nicely and the clips close in tightly too.
