I've been looking at the self install packages based on Home 500, PIPEX Extreme home and BTOpenworld Business 500 plug & go.
I intend to use a router and would like a static IP address.
I've been told that to use a router, on these packages, it must support PPPOA. Is this true, and which one would you recommend.
PIPEX do a "no NAT" option with 8 IP addresses. I've been told that no NAT does not necessarily mean a fixed IP address. ???
How many fixed IP addresses do you need. Is it 3?

In this case non-nat would mean fixed addressing.
you'll need at least 1 *real* i/p address, unless you want to run webservers and mailservers. Use the router to do NAT inside your own network (asuming you have more than 1 machine inside your home network). Most of them act as dhcp servers too.

Note that you do not need a static IP address to run a mail/ftp/other server on your ADSL (or other broadband) account.
There are several companies who will host a domain name for you, and provide software to monitor your IP address and update their routing table in real-ish time.
Personally, I use Microtech on my Pipex account, and I run a mail server and an FTP server behind my Speed Touch 510 router.

I use avnet http://www.aviators.net as my ISP. They give (well, sell ) me ADSL with fixed IP on the equivalent of Home 500.
Works a treat, too
