Default mac mini

Hi all

thinking of changing my 5 year old dell dual core AMD thing as its getting hard work starting it up & running itunes etc.

thinking of getting a mac mini as we have iphones, ipad & ipods & airport express wifi etc.

only need it for web surfing, emails & 'i' devices. would i still get a good life span out of one of these? i.e do they keep there speed well?

looking at the 2.5ghz I5 one with 500gb hard drive, 4mb (will upgrade to 8mb ram myself) and it has its own dedicated AMD radion graphics stuff rather than integrated like the 2.3ghz one

also want it down stairs to go onto the plasma tv thorugh my hdmi surround amp, would this also work?

is it a worthy buy to last?

thanks

My Mac Mini is four years old and going strong. I use it for exactly the same things you suggest and for software development, its on all day, everyday. It's been through two major OS updates and never missed a beat. It is simply the best computer I've ever had for reliability (I usually have around 6 - 8 computers of some sort on the go and have done for years).

Speed wise, it has slowed a little since day one, but that is because it has a fair chunk of software on there which I've never cleaned up. You probably wouldn't notice it though.

Mac Minis don't come with built in Superdrives anymore, which is a shame, but you can buy one to add on externally.

Cheers

Ian
