I got given an iPad 3 and miss having it Jailbroken. I don't do anything illegal, but like XBMC that can only be loaded from a jailbroken device.

finally decided to bite the bullet and upgrade from 4.2.1 to latest then jailbreak on my trusty old 3gs

DO NOT do this with your normal sim card in if ur phone was jailbreaked, its just bricked my card

have done a quick search and its a comon thing, just says cant find sim..

will have to get a new sim from 3 now...

funny how this seems to only brik sims from phones that have been jailbroken apple at it again.

Just been on the apple forum and loads of guys with bricked phones, ALL 3gs's for some reason..

ALL my Apps were purchased through itunes (dont do music), will i ever bother again, concidering i have got to now go out and buy a new phone... hum.. i very much doubt it. down phones 4 u tomorrow then

just to shut any keyboard warriors up its NOT illegal to jailbroke an iphone, as it allows you to use home brew software, so just because someone wants a phone broke it dont mean they want to break the law...

no mate wont go there, just reboots to activation page.. then says cant find sim and cant find server.

sim is ok works in another phone, have tried 2 more sims in with no result.
loads of guys on line with same problem, all 3gs's....

Your 3GS didn't use UltraSn0w or worse the updated baseband from the iPad in order to carrier unlock?

If it is the updated baseband then you cannot update using iTunes.

The phone works though so isn't bricked? Just the SIM that isn't recognised?

You need to find out who the original carrier is and unlock it. Or see if RedSn0w gets released to allow you to create a custom IPSW to install.

it was unlocked mate... the custom ispw is poss the way to go.. wont chuck it in the bin yet then

But not carrier unlocked it seems which means that the person who sold it to you just applied the 'hack' to update the baseband. They should have also warned you never to update via iTunes or it all goes horribly wrong.

If it is a UK phone and not one from Europe or the US you can just put all the networks SIMs in there and see what happens. Then you will know which one and you can see how to unlock properly.
