Changing ISP - can I keep my email address
We've been with BT since the interweb was invented.
If I change ISP, will I have to give up my email address? It would be a shame as it is actually just my name @etc without any numbers or anything.
Ta in advance!

If you can access your e-mail through a web page you might be able to keep it if you don't cancel the e-mail account, not all ISP's restrict mail access to Outlook Express or similar program, alot more are web based, I don't know about BT but Ant may be right, the best thing to do is ring up BT and ask
You get 90 days to inform your address book

Our works @btconnect.com emails still works and we haven't been with then for over a year.
But we still do use BT for the domain management (as its no cheaper anywhere else and saved messing about setting up all the new forwarding/redirects).
We did phone beforehand to check though.

I think you can keep it if you you use BT Premium Mail (£1.54 a month).
I switched to using my own domain through Google Apps instead, so I keep it no matter what.

I had a @btinternet.com email address for years, and when I left I arranged for all mail to be forwarded to my new address. Although I could access the account via webmail for a while, that eventually stopped.
Now, a couple of years later I still get stuff forwarded, but would prefer to stop it now, as it's all junk
and of course I can't change the settings.

Mine ends @btopenworld.com and I access it via bt.yahoo.com if that makes a difference.
I would phone BT but surely they will say I loose it and must stay with them!

See above, 90 days to transfer your address book or let everyone know.
Best thing is to have a gmail account and setup a forward for 90 days. That gives you enough time to tell everyone. After 90 days, if people have not made a note of your new address, then no great loss

and @btopenworld

ISDN 64K sir
As above a good time to buy a domain so you dont ever have this problem again. A .co.uk is less than a fiver for 2 years. Then you can create multiple addresses ie for your entire family and route the mail to whatever mail system(s) your using.
In fact I set my mrs up a few years back with a bt email addy as well (I can set so many accounts up from my account)
