Question Excel help (possibly table in word)

I am trying to do a dogs family tree in excel where cells a1 and a2 for example would be very wide cells with one name in it (one parent in each). Then cells b1&2 (grandparents) would be in line with the width of cell a1 and the same for another 2 cells, b3 and b4. Column c would have 4 cells to the width of a1 and finally column d would have 8 cells (standard height) to the width of a1.

So to put it another way cells a1 and a2 need to be 8 x the standard cell height each, cells b1 & b2 would then be in line with a1, cells b3 & b4 would be in line with a2 etc.

I can't think of an easier way to explain it!

It is easier to do with a Table in word and just merge columns and/or rows to get the spanning.

Posted as you added the link. You can do that either in excel by merging cells or table in word as above.
