Has anybody upgraded their Ram on a MacBook Pro?
Is it easy? Bought a 2011 Macbook Pro but with having multiple browsers open all the time each with perhaps a dozen tabs, plus mail, plus evernote, it gets a bit laggy. Wanted to upgrade to 8GB but can't swallow the Apple price tag.

Yes as above. I run windows in a VM so upgraded to 8gb and it now flies along. Crucial are cheap (I was amazed how little it was for 8gb) and apart from unscrewing the aluminium case it is very, very easy.

Thanks Ant and Boxt,
I was just seeing if I could find any reviews on the 16GB upgrade. I know Apple state 8GB max on their specs but I'm wondering if I should go for the 16GB instead. Any thoughts?

Web Design mainly, But I usually have Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Opera open with a good few tabs in each, plus mail, plus evernote, Gimp and goodness knows what else. Sometimes it can get a bit laggy. So you think 8GB will be ok? Its double what it's running now I suppose. This is my first Mac after switching from PCs so it's been a bit of a learning curve I guess.

I did RAM too on my MAcbook mate but would also recommend SSD - single biggest upgrade you can do on your machine .... the thing flies
Goes from turn on to useable state in about 18-20 seconds and mine isn't even supporting the fastest bus speed!
If you can't afford a large drive you can do away with the Superdrive and install an optibay module into which you can mount your existing drive - OS on the SSD and your data on the other one!

Memory arrived this morning, I found a Philips #00 screwdriver and it took less than ten minutes. 8GB upgrade for just £34 - Bargain.
Thanks a lot for all your help guys!
