iPhone 3GS out...galaxy s in
Well after getting a 3GS and most of the time it's an iPod as the signal strength is pathetic to say the least. So I've got a galaxy s turning up.
Please help me with suggesting apps, widgets and upgrades as in firmware, flash and loads of forums that can give me info.
Cheers nardoblur

The S2 would have been a better choice, the S is ok, better batt life than the 3GS (thats not hard ) but as an all round handset, its not a big leap, the S2 is though.
As for apps, hit the samsung app store first, see what is free to download.

Interested to know how you get on. From all reports the Galaxy has worse reception and battery life than the iPhone 3GS and is of course trounced by the 4 or 4s. Simple Google search will confirm that.
Still, a change is as good as a break.... so they say.

I need to get rid of my 3Gs. The IOS 5 update absolutely killed it and it seems alot of people are having the same problem. The phone is so unresponsive now it's ridiculous. If I open Messages, for example, the application opens blank, and then about 5 seconds later the last message I was viewing appears. Every application is the same.
Unfortunately the phone is actually frustrating to use now. I can't believe I've put up with it so far. One day it'll drive me over the edge and I'll have to bin it and get a new phone.
If Apple can release an update which has this negative affect with no fix and not even admit the problem then I can't see me upgrading to another iphone.

Is that just using the restore option in iTunes? I'll follow these instructions http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414

Your link isn't working for me but yes, just use the restore button in iTunes, but don't restore from a back-up, you can sync your apps and music again once it's complete.
If you have one near you go into an Apple store, they still sell the 3GS and you'll see how it should work. Show the staff that yours is laggy and they'll restore it for you.

Well got the galaxy s up and running, 75% reception in the house where my 3GS gave no service. Took a little while to sort out the contacts, data roaming from tesco and the bookmarks. Battery life will be checked now I've stopped messing around with wifi, gps and downloading stuff. All good at the moment.

As far a battery goes, I can get around 60 hours out of a single charge with normal use. Drops down to around 20 if I'm playing games/web browsing on it. Still much better than I got from the 3GS

I have a Galaxy S1 and the battery isnt great but if you only turn your internet data on when you want to use it. it uses nothing.
over night turn Wifi and data off and it uses 2% in 9 hours
Reception on vodafone - never had an issue in the year ive had it never let me down
Great phone until I use my mums Galaxy S2 so much snappier

Get an app called quickprofiles, you can set up lots of profiles to use the battery according to your needs, for example, data and sound off at night with alarm on.
It has really helped my battery life on my HTC Desire-Z
