Default Recommenr me a laptop

I'm looking for a laptop, budget up to £800.

Complete idiot when it comes to understanding most of the spec, but heres what I would like.

Must have at least 500GB hard drive
Fast processor
Largish screen, decent keybaord
Good sound and graphics card
Blu ray would be nice

I like the look of the HP Envy beats laptops, but mainly that's from a tart perspective

Would like one that looks good with maybe a brushed ally finish that sort of thing

Have a look at the Dell Vostro 3750 series, brushed metal lid, choice of core ix processors, you can spec decent graphics in there and possibly blue ray too, not 100% on that one though, cracking big 17" screen too.

Hmm, got a laptop with a 17" screen, problem is at that size it just ceases to become portable.

Just got a new work one, Dell job, Core i5, LED backlit screen, etc. Seems good so far, boots quick

I think you really need to specify what you want to get from said laptop. If you just want to browse the internet then you can get a really stylish computer. On the other hand, if you want to go full on gaming then that budget might be too low.

Hard Drive capacity is usually measured in GB or TB these days

Dell XPS 17. Check www.wizmarkcomputers.co.UK for discount codes (about 15%) and don't forget Quidco or Topcashback for some cash back.

Have a look around on www.laptopsdirect they have a massive range usually with a good write up on each model and a Q&A section. Very good sales help line as well.

I've had 5 machines from them over the last few years and been very impressed with the service - the A1 grade refurbs are worth a look as well.

Have a look at Asus laptops
They're a decent spec for the money.
As for 17" being non portable - I find that hard to believe.
My own screen for work is 17", and it travels with me to customer sites all the time.

Consider a 1080p screen depending on your preference. I love mine on a Dell with a 15" screen, standard font size. Many say it is too small, but I find a standard resolution screen very disappointing now. That and SSD would be my main preferences on a new laptop, and most stuff with an SSD will have a good CPU and lots of RAM. Graphics spec only really important for gaming, I could give or take my Radeon because I don't game any longer, and certainly wouldn't on a laptop.

macbook pro 13 inch, I paid £800 (list 999) I could not find any other laptop that was not made from cheap crap plastic except apple. before this I had a dell xps m1310 but after 3 years its was pretty much dead and constantly over heating I paid about 800 for it 3 or 4 years ago.

The XPS 17 takes two drives, so have SSD for Windows and a standard for data storage.

Thanks for the input everyone, I am looking at this:
HP Pavilion dv6-6153ea

Anyone care to take a look at report back, seems like a good spec to me.

Only 15" screen though, so maybe I need to see if they do a 17" version

And yes I did mean GB

i thought HP were not making laptops any more? , look out for over heating problems as thats what seems to go wrong on most laptops.
