Default Updating Android

How do I go about updating my Android operating system to the new Ice cream sandwich or whatever it is? I`ve agreed with Vodafone to keep my phone for a further 9 months and get a 50% discount on my bill (saving me £162 ) I mentioned it`s a bit slow at times and he recommended updating. If I try the update service on my phone it just searches and searches

Only certain devices will be upgradable to ICS, what device are you running?

It would help if we knew which phone, I left my crystal ball at home.

For a guess it'll be one that doesn't have a official ics release so you'll have to go to xda developers to find a custom rom.

Yeah, just found this

“HTC knows how excited our fans are to get their hands on Google’s latest version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich, so we’re thrilled today to announce the first wave of HTC phones that will receive upgrades: We can confirm the brand new HTC Vivid is upgradeable to Ice Cream Sandwich. In addition, Ice Cream Sandwich is coming in early 2012 to a variety of devices including the HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation XL and HTC Sensation XE, as well as the HTC Rezound, HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO Design 4G and HTC Amaze 4G through close integration with our carrier partners. We’re continuing to assess our product portfolio, so stay tuned for more updates on device upgrades, timing and other details about HTC and Ice Cream Sandwich.”

The desire has ics custom rom. Checkout XDA HTC desire forum. It is still early days though still in alpha development

You would be better off upgrading to CM7.1 Asop rom first. You need to check that your hboot can be rooted first.

I'm running 4.0.3 on my Desire HD, it's only a beta at the moment so things like the camera don't work, but other then that it's pretty good. What version of Android are you currently running?

I'm running this custom rom on my Desire.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1200261

It is basically stock 2.3 from HTC with a few add-ons. The main one being A2SD, which means I no longer have memory shortage problems. Highly recommend this if you have a HTC Desire and want the HTC Sense UI.

Ive upgraded from my trusty HTC desire to a Samsung galaxy nexus a couple of weeks ago.

I loved the desire , was the best phone I ever had when I rooted it and stuck a custom rom on it , but the nexus blows it out of the water!

Go for the upgrade , trust me you wont be disappointed

I took a screen shot yesterday. It had been on battery for 14 hours and it was only down to 20% That was a mix of texting, wifi, browsing and a few voice calls. That`s better than my old Desire
