Thats correct Mark.

There is also a setting in MSDOS.SYS which will display the menu every time you boot. Can't for the life of me remember the name though.

Another way is to use a boot disk. It will be necessary to check in the bios that the floppy drive is the first boot device though

brain dead at moment folks

got a laptop with w98 on it i need to get it to boot to dos from switch on, cannot remember , all i can think of is something to do with boot.ini

help

Hit F8 when it says "Starting Windows 98..." and select Command Prompt from the menu.

The file msdos.sys contains the line BootGUI=1. I think you change that to BootGUI=0 it will go straight to DOS, but haven't tried that in ages.
