Default Help to restore my computer files.

I've just been absolutely spanked with a virus on the computer. I've managed to get my music back but lost all documents videos and most important all my pictures. Does anybody know if It's possible to them back?

Thanks for that. I didn't get everything back but I got something.
Took forever. 172,803 files to go through. I've only done the pictures so far as that took me about 9hrs.
Thanks again.

I also used recuva, as mentioned in this thread, to get some pictures back from my phone's SD card, that mysteriously deleted loads of old pics.

Paul&bon, sounds like you have loads of files, but chances are you may not get them all back using this. Did yours take 9 hours on the deep file scan?

My problem now is I have loads of duplicates due to the thumbnails etc, maybe 4 or 5 of the same pic, but different filename and different size.
Anyone got a quick solution to getting rid of those?

Yes, deep scan then 9 hours to go though the results. As you say lots of duplicates. It brought up probably every picture that's ever been looked at on this computer, from clothing to the Subaru pictures by peoples names on here. lol

and from this you have learnt ?

At least put on security essentials from Microsoft and use Dropbox or skydrive to horde ya stuff away from Virus.

in the last 8 years ive had 0 but i did use Mcafee before windows 7 and only ever use security essentials now does the trick and free.

stay away from P2P and small Apps as this is mainly where they come from.

also very deeply inbedded in Horse ****
