Default AMD or Intel

My computer has just died so I was going to make another one, I have made AMD for years now but was curious which was the best ? Also which is the best motherboard to go with. If I go Intel, I have bought Asus for years but seem to be seeing a lot of Gigabyte boards for this cpu?

What use is it put to ?

For a web PC stick to a budget, for a video encoder or music production PC get something swift, and quad core is the norm these days.

P.S. Intel are still way ahead in performance, AMD win on price, ASUS are 75% of my PC's the other is a Gigabyte.

Depends how much you are looking spend, but i've i7-920 D0(they're cost around £140-£200) with ASUS P6T(now cost around £100),6GB DDR3 1600mhz(they're cost from £60-£190),if you are looking for GPU have look for older ATi HD5870 or 5850 which are still great for money and will these you can play any game

I don't need a massive gpu spec as my 30" monitor only runs 1280x760 so I was probs just gonna stick with my gtx8800? As it copes with that res on mlost modern games. The pc is being built for all my downloads and the occasional game. I was leaning towards a core i5 cpu? and 8 gig ram but as I said are AMD worth bothering with?

I have to go better than my laptop and thats an i3

30" run only 1280x760,something is not right, which one you have?If its Dell(which i have) they can run 2560x1600 without the problem, maybe is time to upgrade yours GPU.

i5 are great and good value for money, but i7 are much greater for money, due HT and other functions and main reason which i went for is support 3 channel memory etc.

New CPU from AMD are good too, cheaper than concurrency from Intel, but slightly slower in some apps, but if you are looking just for games and other stuff, they're great X6 1090T is good CPU(6 core) and for great money,Motherboards are cheaper than new series of Intel ..

I have had the monitor years and it was over £3000 when it came out hence why I have never got rid of it Its an NEC 3000, if I was to get a new monitor it would be the 3d model but then they are only 23" which doesn't seem big enough for me.

Thats my monitor but it doesn't do 1600x1200 as I'm sick of trying to find out. I have had it about 7 years and a plasma at the time would set you back around £5k

I actually have a 32" dell tv sitting spare in a room but I can't get rid of my trusty NEC

This NEC can do 1600x1200,but only in Analog mode(which is D-SUB) and not in DVI-D(which is digital)

Buy an i5 2500k if it's just for gaming, for gaming and other applications the i7 2600k is the daddy, wipes the floor with the opposition and it's not serious cash, nothing amd is close (not even the phantom bulldozer chip that people are trying to hype).
Sandybridge all the way

Tony, I have already bought that i5 cpu along with an Asus b3 rev motherboard and 8 gig of corsair 1600 ram. i just hope my case is salavgable otherwise i need to pay out for a new power supply

I'm unsure what went in my pc as there was a burning smell and a few hours later it was dead. I'll see how it boots when I get the new stuff as I presumed the cpu and motherboard burned out.

Steve PSU cost around £50,i'm using only OCZ,which are modular(no messing with cables)

You mean your new CPU and MB burn out?

Is 550 watts enough for modern GPU's now? Does that power supply have the detachable leads?

I build one PC for my friend and my friend running i7-930,12gb memory and ATi 5870 and use this PSU and its without the problem.ATi GPU eat lot less electricity than nVidia Chips.

Yes this PSU have detachable leads, have look on these few,i'm using this shop, because is nearest to me

Novatech banded 800W cost £39,98 and they're great for money, silent and enough for gaming PC and they're have same detachable cables like OCZ,Corsair etc.

http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/p...ov-psu800.html

or you can have look at OCZ series,
