Default PC wont play DVDs

After my thread yesterday asking now to copy DVD's to my HDD. I had wanted to make a start on this thismorning but ran into problems straight away.

When I put a DVD in the drive and Windows Media Player busts into life I get the following error
Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card.
I have updated the drivers on my graphics card, dvd drive and downloaded k-lite codecs with no luck.

Can anyone else shine a light on this before I buy a Mac?

Try downloading VLC media player, plays pretty much anything and will show if the problem is just with windows media player.

Cheers will give it a blast

Think I've found the problem (maybe). My PC seems to think it has a DVD-ROM drive(D and a DVD-Drive(E (E is set to Region1 and will not allow me to change region even though it says i have 4 goes.

I'm mega confused.

Well ***** to that! Just uninstall WinDVD and installed VLC and VLC won't play my DVDs.

What might be causing the problem? I assume it is a codec issue?

your quite correct, it was user error!

Working grand!

But i still would like to know why Windows Media player won't play my DVDs? Will this not be a complete fly in my ointment as I'll be using my Xbox360 to play the ripped DVDs?

You don't have to pay for it if you look around a bit either.
