Best instant messenger app for iphone?
I've got an Iphone4 and a Blackberry. Been using BBM to keep in contact with a particular friend because its:
Reliable
Free
Fast
Gives delivery and read confirmation
Delivers messages on startup which have been sent when the phone is off
Friend is moving to an Iphone (no choice - work related) so BBM is now out the window.
Looking for the best Iphone app which does all of the above on a stand alone basis, and basically works as well as BBM. Particularly to queuing messages if the app or phone is off and then delivering them when its back on again.
I've used liveprofile before, and whilst looked good out the outside, was crap and unreliable, especially if off or even running in the background (where it missed messages, etc, and delivery/read confirmations)
Any suggestions?
Cheers

Lots of people I know use WhatsApp. It seems to do delivery receipts but not read receipts. Personally I think its a waste of time, but no doubt when Apple release iMessage I'll rave about that.

Cheers all
Jack, I've no intention of paying for anything, although I understand that imessage will require 3g or wifi connection?
Interstingly (having ripped it apart lol) I've revisited liveprofile which has been significantly enhanced since I last used it and it appears to be working fine outwith 3G and wifi. Might just give that a try and see how it goes.

I'd be surprised if iMessage needed 3G, gprs or edge should do fine, in the US finding a 3G signal is rare.
Beta users report iMessage working with GPRS.

Skype is constantly running in the background as its still a pc app that has been changed slightly to work on a phone. Viber was designed to work on a phone so doesn't need so much power to run it which keeps your phone running quicker and gives you a better battery life.

I agree Skype is a battery hog, but your way off the mark thinking it's a slightly modified PC app. The battery savings with Viber come from the rather clever use of push notifications, you recieve a notification of a call then if you accept it opens the app. That's clever. The downside is it only works iPhone to iPhone and you both need the app, you don't get cheap international or local calls.
Update, now works for Androids.
