Microsoft Project predesessors disappearing

Microsoft Project predecessors disappearing
Hi
I have MS Project sat on Vista platform at work - I know, I know.... Vista
Anyway I've spent the last few months developing a huge programme. On two occcasions in recent weeks I have loaded the programme to find all the predecessor information gone, and therefore all tasks starting on "day 1". I have backups but still lost half a days work both times.
Anyone know why I have had this randomly happening?

PS Google searches appear to link to Microsoft sites and I can't seem to find fault through that route.
