Download the VLC Media player app. You can play avis on it then, no need to convert.

You want something that will convert your films to mp4 format. My brother has bluray rips converted to mp4 with out much quality loss. File is only small too so can get plenty on.

I've heard you can get them already converted on bitsoup? (spelling)

VLC was removed from the App Store, if you don't have it already you're not getting it. Interesting reason behind it's removal.

If you download Vuze (torrent Client) you can drag any film from your hard drive into the itunes section in Vuze and it will give you a list of Apple devices to convert it to. Ipad for the bigger screen resolution etc.

Gnu licensing issues then I guess. Will Google for it later. Shame as it's a good player on the desktop.

AVS4you is one of the best converters I have used, it converts films to virtually any format and still maintains the quality

I have that one as well and it converts well for older phones but using it on modern phones and the image looks blocky even on a small screen.

I use

http://www.redkawa.com/

it is free and it works 100% i.e. rip a avi or mp3 to an ipone

i hate all this conversion crap usually -- but I needed to do it for my sons iphone and it actually does what it says on the tin
