Default PS3 Hard Drive

I'm after the biggest hard drive I can fit into a PS3 that's a good make and a good price.

Anyone got any suggestions? So far I've found this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-640G...5697354&sr=8-7

I think the 640GB is the biggest you can get with the correct form factor so it slots straight in, bigger 2.5" SATA's require you to remove the bay or something?

Cool

You are only limited by the fact it needs to be a 2.5" laptop drive, at 5400 rpm, the capacity is irrelevant. People have put 1tb or bigger drives in without problem.

Not strictly true, the hard drive bay is only big enough for a 9.5mm thick drive. Larger 2.5" drives are thicker than this so you need to remove the bay for them to fit. I'm looking for a cheap, no messing plug and play replacement.

Edit: Found another

Ah, ok, I did not realise! I have seen some people claiming they had done 1TB, maybe they were telling porkies!

The largest I can find in that form factor is 750GB. Still, I have 320GB on mine (originally a 40GB one) and it's full of all sorts, and I still have 198gb free!

I suppose if you are going to start downloading films, the more the better.

I didn't check your links, but I have the Samsung 640gb in both of my PS3's, they were around 45 each from ebuyer.
I was thinking about a 750, but for the relatively small storage difference, the price was a little high.

That's what I'm thinking, the price hike on the 750 is a little much. Think I'll get a 640.

My current drive is the 60GB one and it gets full quickly.

It can be done, you just need to remove the bay the drive slots in. Or modify it. I'd rather leave it in.
