iPad 2 - UK Orders ??
I decided last week that I needed an iPad in my life.
Looking around there were only a few places with the base spec in stock I then looked at Apple and see the new one is coming out from this Friday 25th
So decided that I would wait and get an iPad2 .. Now with less than a week away there isnt anywhere taking orders for them yet.
Does anyone know when you will be able to place online orders ??
Apple store, John Lewis ... When can you place an order ??

You can sign up for notification emails here. I'm trying to remember when / if you could pre-order in the US. I have a feeling that it was possibly the wednesday or thursday before the friday release on the 11th, and I'd suspect it'll be the same for Canada and the UK.
Having said that, I'd not be at all shocked if the release date gets pushed back, as it did with the iPad 1 when it came to be sold outside the US. Apple being Apple, they want to ensure their market has enough stock, which currently they don't, so will look after themselves before other countries.
This was a major problem for developers, as it meant an additional two month delay before they could an iPad, lest they were willing and able to travel to the US to get one.
The online order system for Apple is listing iPad 2 at a shipping date of 3 - 4 weeks. Stores in the US still have line-ups due to lack of stock.

I really considered buying one as prices are quite reasonable now, still can't bring myself to replace a laptop with one though when as said I can buy a laptop for the same money which is simply better

If you can get over the price (I paid full price 3 weeks ago ) then the light weight, and ease of use won it for me. I can now flick through the internet while she's on eastenders without being hugely anti social having the lid up on the laptop and hiding from everyone (19" screen)

25th is still the date. Online orders do not happen until the day before or on the day. You will need to stand in line and fight the crowds. Saying that because of supply issues, it will be sold out within hours. Also dont forget all the foreign buyers sending couriers to the stores to buy every one in sight !

FYI, it's appeared online in the NZ and AU stores at 1AM today (Friday over there), so would probably appear in the UK store at 1AM tonight.
However, shipping time is shown as 2 - 3 weeks for online orders. US store has just dropped from 4 - 5 weeks to 3 - 4 weeks, so those times could be somewhat conservative, but don't expect it to ship within a few days.

We have already seen a line up outside the eaton center in toronto, they don't start selling them until 5pm tomorrow!
I would call any store before popping in, thought it will no doubt be on a first come first served basis, you would have to be very friendly with a store to get them to hold you a device.

Mate walked to the front of the queue in Melbourne in his F1 uniform, said he was from Lewis's management and had been sent to pick one up, they fell for it and asked for a picture.

Is there really a viable alternative tablet at the moment?
My impression was that the Ipad pretty much had it sown up until HTC and the like get their act together.
I would like something like this, but am not tied to Apple!
