Wireless problems no default gateway
My Mums old laptop recently failed so she bought a secondhand one off ebay. Everything else that has wifi cababilities is able to use the wireless network fine but for some reason when this laptopn logs on it does not seem to be able to access the net.
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::4499:ffa0:8f0a:293%11
Autoconfiguration IPv4 Address. . : 169.254.2.147
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :
Can anyone suggest why this computer is not being assigned a default gateway.

because it is not being assigned an address by the routers DHCP
the 169.254.X.X - is a private range (APIPA Automatic Private IP Addressing) used by Microsoft

you have a wireless issue, probably to do with encryption etc

plug it into the router King check the Ip then prob 192.x.x.x.
As the guys say get inside thr router and check Wireless set it to b/g if u can and WEP to start with, see if you connect, if not disable all encryption.
Dep on lappy it may not support WPA2 encry and only WEP
