Default Virgin 50Meg Broadband

Installed yesterday. Very impressed.
Running Astraweb SSL through port 443 and not getting throttled at all.

That's the NON upgraded speed - you can expect 5Mb upload at some point.

Is that wireless? Had my 50meg upgrade on Saturday and its $hit!

Ive been on the VM tech forum this weekend and cant believe how many people have upgraded and cant get anywhere 50meg! Ive also found out that i should of been given a dongle for the wireless but got sod all off the guy that came round to install the "super hub"
If you have the super hub try a ping test, i was getting 70% packet loss until i turned off the firewall and IP flood detection.

that superhub is crap for wireless. using wifi on my laptop/phone its terrible but for my wired PC its brilliant.

it also said it would take 22 hours to transfer 1gb of files between my PC/laptop over the network.(took 2 minutes on my old router)

Yes, but I had to go out and spend about £14 on an 'N' adaptor as was only getting about 20mb.

Tried the ping test and I am getting large packet losses, what is the cause of this?

Log into the Hub, Click "Advanced settings" go to "Services" and uncheck "Firewall" and "IP Flood Detection".......then ping retest, should be fine...

Thats if you have the Super Hub

Getting there but the upload is still pretty poor for a 50meg connection.

Great.

I got on NTL back in the day and had 64k cable, yes 64k
was awesome, low latency etc, very good for gaming
had it all the way to 20Mb before moving out, when they got it turned down to the Smallest package

anyhow moved back to the parents for a few months a little while back and noticed the speed (10Mb) is now down to around 2Mb....
Complained alot and they did various things, sent an engineer, then a new modem etc

checked the other day its now 1.5Mb....... the modems even setup to sync at 10Mb still

Basically seems like they are putting far too many people on certain bits of the network
Or there is a big p2p user or two near my parents, which i doubt :|

either way Virgin have been ffin useless..
been like it for months now

gonna move my parents on to sky internet, cheaper and for them fine

Not using Kaspersky are you? It's a known problem where it screws up the speedtesters.

A recent one of mine

LOL, I'm on a 40Mbps FTTC connection with a router that only has 100Mbps ports.
