Multiple formatting of hard drives
Someone I know runs a small charity operating in Africa. He has been promised up to 300 year-old laptops from a law firm that changes their kit every year.
He needs to re-format these and is wondering what the easiest way to do it is? No idea of the spec of the laptops as yet.
Any ideas out there?

Do you mean just format, or does he need to re-install Windows as well?
If it's just formatting, then google DBAN, burn it to a few CDs and boot from those. It will wipe the disks automatically.

No, I suspect he'll want an operating system too.
I'll try to get more details, but it does occur to me that the law firm should be responsible for protecting their data rather than leaving it to a small charity

i can't imagine they will need formatting when they will arrive, no law firm will give away hard drives unless they have been wiped in a secure fasion due to legal reasons. im actualy surprised there being given away with the HD's intact tbh, is he sure they have them still in them?
