Thinking of upgrading my pc....
With a few new parts seeing that Intel now have their second gen chips out
So im looking at an i7 2600k 3.4ghz (3.8 w/boost) quad core (unlocked)
An Asus P8P67 Pro mobo due to being about the best out there in its price range for overclocking
An Nvidia 570 POV Sonic Platinum graphics card (amazingly cheap for what you get) and a bit of memory though not quite decided on what to get (8gb min though)
Its not like my gpu I have already is out of date (well not too much ) an Nvidia 280GTX but if im going to go for it then its win 7 and the above, it should see me fine from my 6600 quad core.
Any other suggestions (im not a fan of ATI cards or AMD processors which are not even in the same league, though the 22nm intel chips may be a good year or 2 away yet?) so please dont recommend those but you can on the memory front
Here is a comparison between the 2nd gen and previous model (closest I could get without going 6 core v 4 core)

Hi Tony this depends what you are need from PC,if you want this best go for it,but i would recommend at this time just for i7-930,Asus P6T,12GB ram and ATi 5870/5970(best GPU card and fastest on market,nVidia just is second),SSD and second HDD for Storage(2x1tb from Samsung F3 or WD Black or Blue series).
I working with Profi software like AutoCad/Maya/3DS Max(simultaneously) and lots of Video rendering with Adobe Premiere and mine i7-920(overclocked to 4.5ghz)is fast on everything what i do,and still i'm using just 30% of power of all cores(4cores and 4HT cores)..
If you want spend crazy money, spend is your money, but is not worth at moment...
Just wait until prices are go down or prices will be stabilized.

I do like my games but some wont run on duel GPU processors so sticking to the single ones (hence the 570), and the 2600k has been clocked to 5ghz on air plus its architecture is better than the previous gen, and its not that much more expensive really (plus some nice features on the new chips for graphics etc ) and if I went for the i7 930 I would be stuck on out of date hardware (1366 v 1155).
My biggest issue really is the memory, what cas to go for, not too fussed if I get 8 or 12gb, just decent stuff

Hi Tony i don't know but on mine i play games as well and i have 2x5970 and i don't have any problem with games, yes with some games this GPU will be run as standard GPU not Dual GPU.
About the new features of new chipset,at these times every MB(decent) have Crossfire or SLi or both...I'm running on i7 just 4.5ghz with HT on and i don't need more(CPU power you will use just for converting or Un-RAR files,CPU is useless for gaming, because games don't support Quad Core,if yes is few out there)...
LGA1366 is good chipset(probably for me best, because no onboard GPU,perfect for overclocking and stable with MAC OSX),new Sandy Bridge never tested or used ,time will if its good upgrade.
Go for 12GB Corsair XMS-3 1600mhz or 1800mhz,i have used these on every machine and have good performance at overeclocking or you can have look for G.Skill.

Fast memory is for fools with too much money, IMHO.
An SSD is a nice addition.
For a home user it's actually over-kill, mine is a last gen i7 870 and it's awesome, I use 2% of the cpu whilst 98% is searching for pulsars...
dunx
P.S. 2 Gb, 4 Gb, 8 Gb, or 16 Gb. 2 channel memory controller.

GTX280 not fast enough?
What the hell games do you play
No point in comparing 1366 versus 1155. Replacement for the 1366 is not out yet. That is what I am waiting for
How about keep the current GPU and run that into the ground then buy a new one Or were you thinking of dedicating it to PhysX?
If you are overclocking, stick with 2 sticks for the dual channel 1155. I run my memory at 1600MHz, anything above that just creates more heat with not much to show for it.

That's true but if you are running the 3 channel memory controller you will need 3 Gb, 6 Gb, 9 Gb,12 Gb etc.
LGA1366 use only 3 channel memory,LGA1155 use only 2 channel memory. And new socket for Sandy Bridge use at this time only Dual channel memory which is pointless for me at moment..
But definitely you have truth about SSD,but with memory i disagree,if you are running AutoCad/Adobe SW etc.,more memory is better for you........

Aye, the really powerful (as opposed to 'home' CPUs like I3,5,7 stuff) research/engineering/pro gaming computers will still be using 1366 running Xeon X series CPUs for a while yet, the new socket is out near the end of the year I believe.

Dunno what the replacement for the 1366 is meant to be but the 1155 is more than capable of whooping its butt just now

Well I have been looking to see what the "rumours" are about the 1366 replacement and come up blank.
Of course page 2 here >>>>
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...0k,2833-2.html
Shows the next step is the ivy bridge 22nm chips, though how close these are for production god knows though it does state end of 2011, but who knows?

Some nice info on what the letters mean at the end of the latest 2nd gen chips, though I dont know if its going to be worth waiting for another 10+ months for a new chipset, probably not
