CPU question
My laptop has given up the ghost. I don't see much point in fixing it as there is so many faults with it. I've been spec'ing new lap tops and have noticed that the majority contain the Intel Core I series processors, however, I've noticed some have the Intro Core 2 Duo processors inside them. Anyone know what the difference is performance wise and what your preference would be?

You want the '2nd generation Core' CPUs. They're the 'Sandy Bridge' CPUs that have just been released. As the link above shows.
Intel really should get a new marketing dept. as the product names are bleddy confusing. I worked there a couple of years back and it was confusing enough when on the inside!

You get the i3, i5 and i7 which are the better cpu's going into the latest laptops, these are what you will see pretty much mainstream with good performance, better than the older core 2 duo or intel mobile chips.
You will see things have moved on graphics wise too, worth googling the spec of pc to see their vfm.
Tony (with new i5 cpu laptop )

Screen size: 15.6″
Screen features: 16:9 aspect ratio
Hard drive: 320GB SATA

I've read that battery life is only about two hours, though I always plug them in to the mains, and there is not a dedicated graphics card, but I don't play games on laptops. HD size doesn't matter as I'm about to get a NAS setup.
What do you think to that? I can't find anything near for that money.

Comet/pc world were doing one at a similar price (i7 with intergrated graphics), though I would still google how good it is to see if there is a decent write up on it, my packard bell (acer basically) cost me only 40 quid more with dedicated 512mb m310 graphics (not fantastic but does a bit of everything) with an i5 2.27ghz chip (2.53 on boost) and is plenty fast enough for everyday use (also 4gb ddr3, win 7 premium, 500gb hdd etc)
