Default New fan for laptop

Have an oldish Toshiba laptop which gets hot and the slows down before stopping.

I am guessing it needs a new fan?

This is not something I could tackle myself so very roughly what should I expect to pay for repair?

Thanks, David

Its possibel the fan has got so much dust in it, thats its slowing it down. Try blasting some air in there first.
If the fan didn't work at all, it'll probably last barely a minute before it shuts itself down.
Does it?

OK - it's my daughters machine so I'll tell her to get her hair dryer out

It usually lasts say 40 - 60 mins before stopping so may be it is just bunged up. But is horrendously slow from Start Up onwards.

I think there are other problems too but it won't stay on long enough for me to do a scan!

Thanks for input, David

I'd give the fan a good clean before buying a new one.

Make sure she isn't overheating the laptop too, by blocking the vents at the side or anything (happens when used on a blanket/duvet sometimes).

Understood but I am nervous about taking a laptop apart and if I get it wrong my daughter will kill me

She always uses machine on table, often with a pen under left hand side to give the vents more room to breath!
