Default How do I find out what would be the best ISP for my area (connection quality)

A family member of mine is struggling with the quality of there connection. They live far out in the sticks and downloads are almost an impossiblitly for things like Iplayer etc.

I have googled it, but all that seems to come up is the price you'd pay in your area. They are currently with Talk Talk. I'm with them but live about 100 yards away from the telephone exchange and get approx 800kb a sec.

Tenterden is where they live, but a few miles from the town.

The only operator that seems available is talk talk and thats who they are with. Looks like they will have to stick with them

Looks like they can only get Talk Talk on a LLU service but normal ADSL should be ok? I'm with Zen and they are faultless, but expensive

If they live far out in to the sticks is the problem simply line length and thus ADSL will be slow regardless of which ISP they use? Check the modem's sync speeds and noise figures. This should give an indication of what they might expect.

What router are they using? Is it an old one, or fairly recent?

I'm a fair way from the exchange and when I replaced my old router, I got a big increase in both connection speed and stability.
