HDD failure or Controller?

HDD failure or Controller?
I'll try be breif as I can. My hard drive doesn't get detected on post and it's intermittent but I can hear a feint clicking, reset and all is good.
I know what you're thinking now "it's the HDD" but this is the fifth now!
Which is why I'm questioning the controller would this be a good assumption? Or something I'm overlooking?

It's my pc , the mac dont have problems
I've tried changing psu adapter for the HDD and Sata cables , no joy I'm afraid.
Is it worth me buying a new mobo or am
I wasting my money?
