Can a BIOS be updated with a flat CMOS battery
I have an old laptop with a flat CMOS battery-try as i might to find battery i cant without i guess half wrecking laptop.
I can get laptop to work ok but the USB function support in the BIOS is disabled and i want this enabled .
At mo i switch it to enabled and then save settings but then laptop restarts from beginning and im guessing due to flat CMOS battery it then just reverts the BIOS back to default settings which is USB function disabled.
Is there anyway to start laptop get into BIOS and swap setting so it has USB enabled ( all of which i can do) but then to save this setting and to get laptop to carry on loading windows from there without going right back to start and just loading BIOS defaults?

Obvious question: Rather than faff about, why not just replace the Cmos battery?
Whilst some are special Ni-MH battery packs, these can be obtained.
I got one for our old Dell for about £14 (as XP would BSOD because it had the incorrect year set in the date): http://cellpacksolutions.com/items.a...puterBatteries
The only thing I had to do was solder the old connector onto the flying leads of the new battery pack (didn't come with a connector). Battery pack was located under the cover that surrounds the keyboard, so just a case of removing some screws and tehe keyboard.
