I haven't used 2k but all the other OSs have the option of making a 'startup disk' for emergency use. In WinME/98 you go to control panel/AddRemove programs, and there is a tab on the top of the box 'Startup Disk' you follow the instructions, insert a clean floppy and... 'Robert is your mother's brother!' - as they say

Presumably even a startup disc from another level of Windows would set you on the way ???

Win98 boot disc works fine - are you sure you can't boot from cdrom ? (usually bios option)...

get one from www.bootdisk.com

No need for BOOTDISK

1. Set your CD to be first boot device in BIOS

2. Insert Win2k CD

3. Boot computer - the setup program will autoboot, load its own cd-rom drivers and offer your partitioning and formatting options before finally going on to install the OS

Do it proper, partition the hard drive into two drives(c:\ and d:\) and format them both of them using format on the boot disk. Make sure you can access your CD rom (in DOS) and copy the O/S disk into a folder on the d:\ drive.

Boot the computer with a boot disk, access the d:\cabs (for example) run the setup program, and install. I know you can do this with 95, 98, 98SE, ME, etc. Unsure about 2k, but assume you can do it.

Then you should copy all your drivers and programs onto the d:\ drive in thier own folders, so next time it will be much easier to install everything. It's good house keeping as well.

Hope this helps

Why partion ? It uses the space better on each drive, due to the cluster sizes being smaller.

If one partion is shot, then usually you can access the other.
