My first Android phone and just love how it works. Having said that my last phone was a SE 990i which was clumsy and sloooooow.

I got a HTC Desire - not the HD one, the normal one and I am really pleased too. Really easy to use. Would recommend Android definitely.

Do any of these phone last their quoted 400+hours standby?
I'm still after a smart phone that can last 4 days minimum with light usage with 3G and Bluetooth on. And getting sick and tired of the lies spurted on the spec sheets
Really wish trading standards or the ASA would clamp down on this.

The other half is after an upgrade on voda for £25 pm.
We were looking at the android Motorolla defy as it's hard wearing, wildfire or windows htc trophy.
Have heard that the defy has major software problems,so that puts us off-any thoughts on the other two-just for light social use?

With bluetooth & 2G, i could get 10 days from my Galaxy S
Once you start playing games, movies etc, it drops to 2-4 days
Automatic 3g selection in the menu's is a killer, if you dont live in a town centre, or near to a 3G mast, the phone will constantly hunt, connecting & disconnecting from 2 to 3 G, killing your battery in the process
Wifi is another surefire way to get the phone into sub 24hr territory

not more than 2- 2.5days battery life from the supplied battery, hence the spare.
I have a HTC Legend, great phone, mrs has the Wildfire, Geat phone! Mate has an iphone 4 and i noticed that most of the little free apps on Andriod were around a quid on I Store....silly things like movie sound boards for ring tones...all costing on I store, all free on Andriod!

Anyone thinking about the Wildfire should consider the Orange San Francisco (ZTE Blade).
PAYG for under £100, unlock for free to any network, selection of excellent 2.2 custom roms available and Cyanogen 7 (android 2.3) is close to release.
Huge modding community on the Modaco forum.
Excellent entry phone for Android modding, on the 2.2 roms, it has excellent performance, can be overclocked to 768mhz (if I remember correctly)
We have 5 in our family, all unlocked and on Vodafone, all rooted and running either 2.1 or 2.2 custom roms.

i have the desire hd, fantastic phone but battery lasts less than a day, however that is with everything on etc. Massive modding community, i go on xda developers, loads of roms / themes etc, I am thinking about a rom that allows an overclock to 1.8ghz Although I wouldnt keep it at that, its fast enough as it is.

if you're not worried about warranty get the phone rooted via the UnRevoked technique. then you can upgrade the phone with Android 2.3 Gingerbread and the new Sense 3.0. there are various new Rom images out there that are being improved every day. one rom (cyanogen AFAIK) is even updated nightly
